Program Notes

In 2024, I founded with my dear friends, flutist Lucy Foshay and violinist Zander Chang, the Sundry Trio. Performing primarily in retirement communities, we aim to introduce to them music they likely have never heard before, and, therefore, we often premiere new works. Being a composer first and a pianist second, at every concert we gave, someone would say they were dissapointed that there had never been anything I had composed on one of our programs. Thus, I decided I must write something for us to play, and what came out was a short piece I titled Apparition. As the title suggests, I wanted the music to evoke an eerie presence like a ghost, and to do this I made use of, among other techniques, bitonality set against a calm backdrop.
