Program Notes

Completed as a part of the Brevard Music Center's Summer Institute's composition program, Divertimento, as the name implies, is a short, light-hearted work for wind quintet. The first movement is a badinage, which is a witty repartee where I infused various musical jokes. The second movement is an interlude that puts some of the jokes and light-hearted motifs into a more serious context. The final movement, a scherzo, I wrote in one day as the deadline was fast approaching. I ended up writing the first thing that came to my mind, something that I almost never do. This movement was the most rhythmic music I had written.
